Recycling Funds Community Activities in Florida
Whether it’s Family Fest, Commando-Cruise-In or a Sesame Street live show, there are plenty of community activities for residents of Hulburt Field, Florida. And they are all funded by the town’s recycling program, according to Hulburt’s Web site.
In just the past month, recycling returns have made possible the Sound of Independence activity and two $1,000 college scholarships. Also, two new pontoon boats and a new 35-passenger tour bus were purchased.
The recycling center sold a record $541,285 in gross sales during the first six months of the 2008 fiscal year. Various scrap metals, including brass shells, bring in the greatest profit.
The recycling center manager, Norman Ben-Maor, said getting people excited about recycling is the key to the program’s success.
